Keep the Faith is Bon Jovi's fifth album, and was released in November of 1992.
In 1990, after touring ended for the New Jersey album, Jon and the band parted ways. Jon was quoted saying, "Five guys took five different planes to five different places. There were no goodbyes, just me, my suitcase and take me home." The band faced exhaustion from touring for over 16 months benind New Jersey.
Jon wrote and recorded "Blaze Of Glory" for the Young Guns II soundtrack, and rode cross country on his motorcycle. Jon also married his girlfriend of ten years, Dorothea Hurley; and two years later started his own label, called Jambco Records. Jon worked with several artists including, Aldo Nova, Stevie Nicks, and Hall and Oates.
Richie also recorded his own solo album, calledStranger in This Town with Bryan and Torres. Richie began a solo tour and was hounded in the press for dating Cher. David released his own album of classical piano tracks, and bean to write scores for movie soundtracks. Tico began a career in painting, something he continues to do today. Alec John Such took a fall off of his motorcycle which injured his bass-playing hand, forcing him to develop a whole new way to hold and play his instrument. Jon also fired long time manager, Doc McGhee shortly after the tour for New Jersey ended. All of these events sparked rumors that the band was breaking up.
The album signified an ending to their early metal roots in previous albums, and introduced a more mature "rock n roll" driven groove to the album. The band was featued sporting a new look as well. Jon decided to spearate the band from other hairbands of the late 80's and cut off his hair. The music scene would change drastically in 1992, and Bon Jovi needed to stay current with the times.
The album turned away from heavy drums and wild guitar solos, and introduced a new sound of Bon Jovi which consisted of piano ballads and long epic guitar solos (The "Dry County" solo runs over two minutes).
Keep the Faith topped the Canadian,UK and Australian album charts. The album has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and is Bon Jovi's 4th biggest-selling album worldwide. Keep The Faith managed a #5 placing on Billboard 200 and has so far reached double platinum status in US.
The album was remastered and re-released in 1998, adding the Live From London performance of "Keep the Faith" as a bonus track.
