linkThe New Black is the fifth and last album by Canadian extreme metal band Strapping Young Lad. It was released on July 11, 2006, debuting at #200 on the Billboard charts. Promo copies of the album began surfacing since June, 2006, and were subsequently leaked onto the Internet.
For the first time, a studio version of "Far Beyond Metal" is made available here. The song was previously only made available as a live recording on the 1998 live album No Sleep Till Bedtime.
Guitarist Jed Simon said the following about the album on the band's MySpace page:
The first single from the album is "Wrong Side," and a music video of the song was shot on May 28, 2006. The video was officially released on the band's MySpace around the same time as the album.
The album comes packaged with a second CD featuring a sampling of various other Century Media artists. The European version contains two bonus tracks: "The Long Pig" and a cover of The Melvins' "Zodiac". The Japanese version contains "The Long Pig" and the instrumental "C:enter:###" (pronounced: see colon, enter colon, pound pound pound).
